FAQs

Who is eligible to apply?

expand_more

Rabidly ambitious founders. We want founders who are obsessed with the problem they’re solving and are world-class at shipping. We’re agnostic to industry or team composition. We invest in single-person teams, seasoned founders, global teams, remote companies, you name it. If you're building something ambitious and you’re unstoppable, you belong at Velocity.

Are there sectors, business models, or geographies you focus your investment in?

expand_more

We consider ourselves generalists across sectors, go-to-market, and geography. Most of our investments are US-based, but previous Velocity companies have been from every continent. Most of our investments are in software, but we’re open to any phenomenal founder solving big problems they’re obsessed with. See “Who is eligible to apply?” above for more.

What if I’ve already raised funding?

expand_more

While we prefer to invest first, we often invest in founders who have already raised funding.

What are the terms of your investment?

expand_more

The exact dollar amount and valuation change per company, but we typically invest on a post-money SAFE with pro-rata rights.

What can I do to stand out in my application?

expand_more

Early-stage startups are all about the founder and team, so show us why you’re excellent at what you do and how you’re uniquely suited to build the business you’re working on. We take references seriously, so you should, too. Showing a deep understanding of your customer and their needs is a must, as is selling that you are the person to build the solution.

Is there a deadline? When do we start and end?

expand_more

We operate on a rolling basis and have deadlines for specific cohorts. Cohorts start quarterly and run for 12 weeks.

The next deadline is September 10th for the cohort starting October 15th.

How big is the program?

expand_more

Around 20 companies per year.

Do you have preferred vendors and discounts?

expand_more

We’re happy to connect you to vendors that our founders speak highly of across bookkeeping, payroll, banking, and much more. Our portfolio companies have combined to receive hundreds of thousands of dollars in discounts and credits across companies like Microsoft, Airtable, Notion, and many more.

Is this an accelerator?

expand_more

We don’t call this an accelerator because there are no fixed investment terms and we accept applications on a rolling basis. Accelerators are often one-size-fits-all whereas Velocity is customized to meet founders where they are in terms of needs and stage.
